Local tips
Unusually, ICBC lists Saturday as the only day for the Johnston Meier Insurance Agencies Group office at #128 - 5717 Main Street in Oliver, open 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. The office sits right by Main Street (BC 97), about 40 m away and posted at 50 km/h, with the Okanagan Highway (also BC 97) about 65 m away. A set of traffic lights is about 45 m from the office and the next one is about 850 m away, so most intersections nearby have no lights; look both ways and be ready to yield. A bridge on Road 2 is about 645 m away, and Oliver Fire Hall 181 is about 845 m away. Our 21.2 km practice route uses Road 1 and BC 97/Main Street, then a loop of Similkameen Avenue, Airport Street and Skagit Avenue, before Fairview Road, Black Sage Road, Saskatoon Avenue and Ryegrass Road lead back to the Okanagan Highway. Almost every turn is a right, so practice staying close to the curb and shoulder checking for cyclists.
Common questions
Oliver road test FAQ
What are the hours at Oliver?
ICBC lists: Sat 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
Is a practice route available for Oliver?
Yes. This page has a 21.2 km Class 7 practice test route that starts and ends at the centre, with a map and turn-by-turn directions.
