Local tips
Three schools within about 170 m, 275 m and 355 m are the standout feature near the Penticton Service BC Centre at 40 Calgary Ave. Watch for students and school zones on weekdays, because ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. The centre is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Map data puts four-lane Main Street, posted at 50 km/h, and a set of traffic lights right at the office, with 26 signals within a kilometre. Penticton Regional Hospital is about 785 m away, so be ready to pull over for ambulances. Martin Street, about 635 m out, is posted at just 30 km/h. Our 6.9 km practice route is short and varied: Calgary Avenue, Government Street, Forestbrook Drive and Eckhardt Avenue East, then a roundabout where you take the second exit onto Front Street, followed by Lakeshore Drive and Winnipeg Street. Practice slowing early, yielding to traffic already in the roundabout and signalling right before your exit.
Common questions
Penticton road test FAQ
What are the hours at Penticton?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
