Local tips

The Doaktown driver examination office is at 272 Main Street, open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with road tests by appointment. Doaktown is a small village on Route 8, which serves as Main Street, posted at 50 km/h through town. Outside the village it's a fast two-lane highway with trucks and through traffic. Practice checking your mirrors before you slow for turns, and signal early so drivers behind you have time to react. There are no traffic lights in the area, so most decisions happen at stop signs and uncontrolled side roads. Doaktown Elementary School is about 1.45 kilometres from the office, so slow down in the school zone on weekdays. Our 2.1 km practice route is a short loop through the village: Main Street (Route 8), Prospect Street, Forest Street, Dr. Hamilton Drive and Pleasant Street. It includes a U-turn on Forest Street, so practice it only where it's allowed and safe: pull to the right, check all around, and turn when the road is clear in both directions.

Common questions

Doaktown road test FAQ

What are the hours at Doaktown?

Service New Brunswick lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Offices close on statutory holidays, so check snb.ca before you go.

How do I book a road test?

Book online through Service New Brunswick's Driver Examination Online Booking Service (linked from gnb.ca's Driver licence testing page), or call TeleServices at 1-888-762-8600 (Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). The road test fee is $25 plus HST for each attempt, and you can take the test in English or French.

What do I need to bring?

A licensed driver with at least three years of experience and a valid Class 5 (or equivalent) licence to come with you, your valid learner's permit, a signed and valid vehicle registration, proof of valid insurance for the vehicle, your driving school certificate if you have one, and proof of payment for the test. Bring paper copies; only the proof of insurance can be digital. If anything is missing, you'll be turned away.

How long do I need my learner's licence first, and what if I fail?

New drivers take this road test to move from Class 7 Level 1 (learner) to Level 2. You must have held Level 1 for at least one year, or eight months if you completed a recognized driver education course (green certificate required). The wait is waived if you've been fully licensed before. If you don't pass, you book and pay for another attempt.
