Local tips

The Fredericton driver examination office is in Suite 25 at 435 Brookside Drive, at Brookside Mall on the north side of the river. It's the only New Brunswick exam office with Saturday hours: weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to noon, with road tests by appointment. Map data shows parking about 120 metres away, and Fredericton Transit stops at Brookside Mall are about 200 metres away. Roundabouts are the first thing to practice. Several sit only about 250 metres from the office, on the way to Ring Road (Route 105). Our 21.2 km practice route uses them right away: from Brookside Drive it takes the roundabouts onto Ring Road, then Maple Street and Saint Mary's Street (Route 105). It continues through the Nashwaaksis streets around Dedham Street, Cliffe Street, MacLaren Avenue, Clark Street, Hillcrest Drive and Sunny Brae Drive. Yield to traffic already in the circle and signal your exit. Expect shoppers and buses around the mall.

Common questions

Fredericton road test FAQ

What are the hours at Fredericton?

Service New Brunswick lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m.–12:00 noon. Road tests by appointment. Offices close on statutory holidays, so check snb.ca before you go.

How do I book a road test?

Book online through Service New Brunswick's Driver Examination Online Booking Service (linked from gnb.ca's Driver licence testing page), or call TeleServices at 1-888-762-8600 (Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). The road test fee is $25 plus HST for each attempt, and you can take the test in English or French.

What do I need to bring?

A licensed driver with at least three years of experience and a valid Class 5 (or equivalent) licence to come with you, your valid learner's permit, a signed and valid vehicle registration, proof of valid insurance for the vehicle, your driving school certificate if you have one, and proof of payment for the test. Bring paper copies; only the proof of insurance can be digital. If anything is missing, you'll be turned away.

How long do I need my learner's licence first, and what if I fail?

New drivers take this road test to move from Class 7 Level 1 (learner) to Level 2. You must have held Level 1 for at least one year, or eight months if you completed a recognized driver education course (green certificate required). The wait is waived if you've been fully licensed before. If you don't pass, you book and pay for another attempt.
