Local tips

At 850A - 16th Street N.E., the Salmon Arm Service BC Centre sits about 90 m from the Trans-Canada Highway, which map data shows posted at 50 km/h here. The centre is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Salmon Arm Secondary's Jackson Campus is about 240 m away, so watch for students and school zones on weekdays; ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. Shuswap Lake General Hospital is about 455 m from the office, so be ready for ambulances: signal, pull over to the right and stop until they pass. A bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway is about 540 m away, and the nearest traffic lights are about 860 m out. Our 18.9 km practice route goes along 16 Street Northeast and 6 Avenue Northeast to the Trans-Canada Highway, then Canoe Beach Drive Northeast, Park Hill Road, 60 Avenue Northeast and Lakeshore Road Northeast. Practice left turns off the highway, waiting for a gap you are sure of.

Common questions

Salmon Arm road test FAQ

What are the hours at Salmon Arm?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.

Is a practice route available for Salmon Arm?
