Local tips

The Vernon Service BC Centre at 3201 30th St. is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with road tests by appointment. Railway level crossings are the standout here: map data shows six, the nearest about 135 m away and others about 200 m and 255 m away. Slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. Vernon Fire Hall 1 is about 150 m away, so be ready to pull over for sirens, and Beairsto Elementary School is about 210 m away; ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. A set of traffic lights is about 45 m from the office, with 22 within a kilometre, and map data shows a large number of marked crosswalks nearby, so expect pedestrians everywhere. Our 8.1 km practice route goes south on 30 Street to 32 Avenue and 35 Street, through a roundabout onto 30 Avenue, then 37 Street, 25 Avenue, Pottery Road, 15 Street and 27 Street. In the roundabout, yield to traffic already in it and signal your exit.

Common questions

Vernon road test FAQ

What are the hours at Vernon?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
