Local tips
Northern Savings Insurance Services Ltd. at 1663 Main Street is where road tests are booked in Masset. Its hours are a little different from most offices: Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday. Road tests are by appointment. Gudangaay Tlaats'gaa Naay Secondary School is only about 195 m away and Tahayghen Elementary about 460 m away. ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail, so watch for students and school zone signs on weekdays. A fire station is about 165 m from the office; if you hear a siren, signal, pull over to the right and stop. Map data also shows a bridge on Hodges Avenue about 600 m away. Our 5.1 km practice route leaves along Main Street, uses Collison Avenue and Orr Street to reach Hodges Avenue, loops out via Park Drive, Northwest Drive and Trumpeter Drive, then weaves back through Cook Street and Harrison Avenue. With so many short turns, practice signalling early and checking your blind spot each time.
Common questions
Masset road test FAQ
What are the hours at Masset?
ICBC lists: Tue–Fri 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Sat 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
Is a practice route available for Masset?
