Local tips
Westland Insurance Group's Kitimat office at 956 Wakashan Ave. keeps shorter hours, opening Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Kitimat General Hospital and Health Centre is about 315 m away, so be ready to pull to the right and stop for ambulances. Haisla Boulevard, about 365 m away, has three lanes and is posted at 60 km/h; check your blind spot before changing lanes. Kildala Elementary School is about 635 m away and Kitimat City High about 740 m, so watch for students and school zones on weekdays. ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. A bridge on East Columbia Avenue sits about 480 m away. Our 10.4 km practice route is a simple loop: Wakashan Avenue, Tsimshian Boulevard, Haisla Boulevard, Nalabila Boulevard and Kuldo Boulevard, then Quatsino Boulevard and South Lahakas Boulevard back to Wakashan. Practice holding a steady 60 km/h on Haisla Boulevard and keeping a safe following distance.
Common questions
Kitimat road test FAQ
What are the hours at Kitimat?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
