Local tips

The Trans-Canada Highway (TCH 1) passes only about 35 m from the Hub International Insurance Brokers (HCW) office at 102B - 211 Wallace Street in Hope. Here it has four lanes and is posted at 50 km/h, so choose your lane early. The office is open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Map data shows railway level crossings about 445 m and 755 m away; slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. Hope Fire Hall 1 is about 250 m away, so pull over for sirens, and Two Rivers Education Center is about 435 m away. The Crowsnest Highway (CN 3), about 655 m away, is posted at 110 km/h. Our 7.9 km practice route is short but busy with turns: Wallace Street, the Trans-Canada Highway, Old Hope-Princeton Way, 7th Avenue, Kawkawa Lake Road, Coquihalla Street and 3rd Avenue. With 35 marked crosswalks and 41 stop signs nearby, practice covering the brake near corners and watching for people crossing.

Common questions

Hope road test FAQ

What are the hours at Hope?

ICBC lists: Mon–Sat 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
