Local tips

The Winchester DriveTest centre is at 12028 Dawley Drive, Unit 1, a small street on the west side of the village beside the Winchester Crossing shopping area, where map data shows a Foodland, a Tim Hortons and several other shops close by. DriveTest lists it as open Monday to Friday with a lunch break, from 8:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., so don't plan to sort out paperwork in the middle of the day. An important detail: DriveTest's listing shows this centre offering the G2 road test only, so if you need your full G test you will have to book a different centre. The roads around here mix village streets with fast rural county roads. The main signalized intersection, where County Roads 31 and 43 meet Main Street West, is only a few hundred metres away, and County Road 43 and Main Street West are mapped at 80 km/h near the centre before Main Street drops to 50 km/h in the village. Practice judging gaps and matching speed on those roads. Cornwall, Brockville, Smiths Falls and the two Ottawa centres are other options in this directory.
