Local tips

In Tumbler Ridge, Hub International Insurance Brokers (HCW) books road tests at unit 108, 235 Front Street. ICBC doesn't list regular opening hours for this location, so check before you go; road tests are by appointment. Tumbler Ridge Secondary School is only about 240 m from the office, and Tumbler Ridge Elementary School is about 620 m away. ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail, so slow down for students on weekdays. The biggest change of pace is Don Phillips Way (BC 29), about 485 m away, which map data shows posted at 90 km/h. Treat turns onto it with care: look both ways more than once and wait for a gap that leaves plenty of room. Our 10.4 km practice route takes only about 13 minutes because it uses two highways. It leaves along Front Street, Northgate, Monkman Way, Willow Drive and MacKenzie Way, then runs on the Heritage Highway (BC 52) and Don Phillips Way (BC 29) before returning by Monkman Way and Southgate Street. Practice building up to highway speed smoothly and keeping a long following distance.

Common questions

Tumbler Ridge road test FAQ

What are the hours at Tumbler Ridge?

ICBC lists: Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
