Local tips

Don Titus Elementary School is about 160 m from the Chetwynd Service BC Centre at 4474 52nd St. NW, so expect students and school zones on weekdays. ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. The centre is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Map data shows a hospital about 220 m away and Chetwynd Hospital about 645 m away; if an ambulance approaches, signal and pull over to the right. The John Hart Highway (BC 97) is about 280 m from the office and posted at 50 km/h there, with bridges on nearby access roads. Several railway level crossings start about 595 m out: slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. Our 13.6 km practice route uses 47th Avenue Northwest and 50th Street Northeast (BC 29), heads out along West Fraser Road and Campbell Road Northeast, then comes back via Rodeo Way Northeast and the John Hart Highway. Practice adjusting your speed smoothly as you move between the highway and town streets.

Common questions

Chetwynd road test FAQ

What are the hours at Chetwynd?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
