Local tips

Sidney Driver Licensing, at 9884 Third Street, is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Pedestrians are the thing to watch here: map data counts 87 marked crosswalks nearby, and Beacon Avenue, about 245 m away, is posted at just 30 km/h. A child-care centre is about 205 m away and Sidney Elementary School about 530 m, so slow down for school zones on weekdays. Roundabouts sit about 300 m, 755 m and 1.1 km away; yield to traffic already in them and signal your exit. Our 17.6 km practice route uses Fourth Street, Henry Avenue and Resthaven Drive to reach McDonald Park Road, takes the ramp toward 17 South/Victoria/Wain Road, then follows Wain Road, John Road, Wilson Road and West Saanich Road before the Patricia Bay Highway (BC 17 South), Beacon Avenue and James White Boulevard. On the ramp, keep left at the fork as directed and check your mirrors early.

Common questions

Sidney road test FAQ

What are the hours at Sidney?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
