Local tips
Richmond Driver Licensing is inside the Lansdowne Centre mall by BMO Bank, at 402-5300 No.3 Road. It is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except Wednesdays, when the doors open at 9:00 a.m., and road tests are by appointment. Map data counts 134 sets of traffic lights within a kilometre, with the nearest about 185 m away. Practice reading each light early so you are never surprised by a yellow. Alderbridge Way, posted at 50 km/h, is about 145 m from the office. Two universities are listed within about 230 m and 260 m, and a child-care centre and a learning centre are about 415 m and 440 m away, so expect pedestrians and look out for school zones. There are also 145 stop signs and 66 marked crosswalks nearby. Our 18.6 km practice route uses Alderbridge Way and Garden City Road, takes the 99 North ramp toward Vancouver, loops through West 67th Avenue, Osler Street and Hudson Street, then comes back by the 99 South exit and Kwantlen Street. On the ramps, practice matching the speed of traffic and checking your blind spot.
Common questions
Richmond road test FAQ
What are the hours at Richmond?
ICBC lists: Mon–Tue 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Wed 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Thu–Sat 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
