Local tips
Tucked away on a side street, Vancouver Driver Licensing (Point Grey) is at 4126 Macdonald Street. It's open Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a later 9:00 a.m. opening on Wednesdays, and road tests are by appointment. Traffic lights are about 20 m from the door, and there are 22 sets within a kilometre. Away from the lights, the surrounding streets have 392 stop signs, so expect frequent full stops and careful right-of-way decisions. Trafalgar Elementary School is about 255 m away. ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail, so slow down on weekdays. Map data shows four roundabouts nearby, the nearest about 580 m away; yield to traffic already in them and signal your exit. Our 25.4 km practice route is long, around 46 minutes: it goes from Macdonald Street to West King Edward Avenue and Granville Street (BC 99), along West 41st Avenue and Oak Street to Southwest Marine Drive, through two roundabouts, then back via West 4th Avenue, Alma Street and West 16th Avenue. Practice keeping your focus over a longer drive.
Common questions
Point Grey road test FAQ
What are the hours at Point Grey?
ICBC lists: Mon–Tue 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Wed 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Thu–Sat 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
