Local tips

Port Coquitlam Driver Licensing is at 1930 Oxford Connector, and map data shows railway level crossings about 105 m, 225 m and 310 m away. Slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks, even if traffic ahead is backed up. The office is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., opening at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesdays, and road tests are by appointment. The Lougheed Highway (BC 7), posted at 60 km/h, is about 50 m from the office, and the nearest of 68 traffic lights within a kilometre is only about 35 m away. James Park Elementary is about 470 m away, so watch for students and school zones on weekdays. Roundabouts start about 705 m out; yield to traffic already in them and signal your exit. With 71 marked crosswalks and 150 stop signs nearby, practice full stops and checking for pedestrians at every corner. Our 9.0 km practice route follows the Oxford Connector to David Avenue and Coast Meridian Road, then comes back along the Lougheed Highway (BC 7) to the Oxford Connector. Use it to practice turning at busy signals and holding a steady speed on the highway.

Common questions

Port Coquitlam road test FAQ

What are the hours at Port Coquitlam?

ICBC lists: Mon–Tue 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Wed 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Thu–Sat 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
