Local tips

Invermere's road tests are booked through Lambert Insurance (Westland Insurance Group) at 742 - 13th St. It keeps long hours: weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with road tests by appointment. A fire station is about 205 m away and Invermere and District Hospital about 550 m, so be ready to pull over for emergency vehicles. A school sits about 300 m away; on weekdays, watch for students and school zones, as ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. Map data also shows a railway level crossing about 535 m away, so slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. Our 12.7 km practice route goes from 13th Street to 10th Avenue, 4th Street, 7th Avenue and Laurier Street, makes a sharp right onto Lakeview Road and a sharp left onto Lakehill Road, then uses the Kootenay-Columbia Highway (BC 93/BC 95) and Athalmer Road. Slow down well before each sharp turn and look through it.

Common questions

Invermere road test FAQ

What are the hours at Invermere?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; Sat 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
