Local tips

SGI holds Assiniboia's driver exams at the Town Office, 131 3rd Avenue West. It isn't a full-time exam office: SGI says office hours vary and every service needs an appointment, so book through MySGI, a motor licence issuer or 1-844-TLK-2SGI. Map data shows small parking lots within about 100 metres of the building. Assiniboia is where Highways 2 and 13 cross, and both run through town on Centre Street and 1st Avenue, so expect highway traffic, trucks and turning vehicles close to the office. Two schools sit within about 820 metres, including Assiniboia Composite High School, and there are railway crossings a little under a kilometre away. Our 14.4 km practice route works through the residential avenues on both sides of Centre Street and includes a stretch of the Red Coat Trail, so practice smooth speed changes as you move between highway and town streets.

Common questions

Assiniboia road test FAQ

What are the hours at Assiniboia?

SGI lists: Office hours vary. Appointment required for all services. Check sgi.sk.ca/examoffice before you go.

How do I book a road test?

Book a Class 5 road test online with MySGI, through a motor licence issuer, or by calling 1-844-TLK-2SGI (1-844-855-2744). If you give your cellphone number, SGI texts you reminders 24 hours and one hour before, and you can check in by text when you arrive.

What do I need for the Class 5 road test?

You must have held your Class 7 learner's licence for at least nine months, bring photo ID, and supply a vehicle in good working order (the examiner inspects it first). Bring your Driver Education Certificate if your training isn't on your SGI file. Your supervising driver waits in the waiting room during the test.

What if I fail?

SGI says you must wait two weeks before taking another Class 5 road test, and you pay the test fee again. If you miss an appointment without cancelling, you pay for the rescheduled one.
