Local tips

The Burnaby Claims Centre at 4399 Wayburne Drive handles road tests only and is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; tests are by appointment. Our 35.9 km practice route takes about 71 minutes, so set aside a full session. It runs from Wayburne Drive onto Deer Lake Parkway and Canada Way, through Kensington Avenue, Sperling Avenue and Boundary Road to the Lougheed Highway, and later takes the Trans-Canada Highway ramp toward Hope, leaving at exit 32 for Sprott Street. Near the office, Moscrop Secondary School is about 465 m away and the British Columbia Institute of Technology about 445 m, so expect students and school zones on weekdays; ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. Willingdon Avenue, three lanes and posted at 50 km/h, is about 315 m away, and the nearest of 34 traffic lights is about the same distance. Roundabouts lie about 635 m and 785 m out: yield to traffic already in them and signal your exit. Try it in sections first if the full length feels like too much.

Common questions

Wayburne road test FAQ

What are the hours at Wayburne?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
