The Trans-Canada Highway, posted at 70 km/h, is only about 170 m from the office, and the nearest of ten traffic lights is about the same distance away. Map data shows railway level crossings about 300 m and 450 m out, with more beyond: slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. There are roundabouts about 590 m and 745 m away; yield to anyone already in the roundabout and signal as you leave. With 49 marked crosswalks and 67 stop signs in the surrounding streets, expect pedestrians and frequent full stops. Ladysmith Fire Rescue is about 670 m away. Our 10.1 km practice route uses 2nd Avenue, Baden-Powell Street, 4th Avenue and Roberts Street to reach the Trans-Canada Highway, then Davis Road, Dogwood Drive and First Avenue, where you take the third exit at a roundabout onto Symonds Street. Practice counting exits before you enter.

Common questions

Ladysmith road test FAQ

What are the hours at Ladysmith?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Sat 9:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
