Local tips
Western Financial Group is the licensing agent in Fraser Lake, at 250 McMillan Ave., open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with road tests by appointment. Map data places the Yellowhead Highway (YH 16) only a few metres from the office, posted at 50 km/h, and your test may begin by turning onto it. Look both ways twice and wait for a gap you are comfortable with. Fraser Lake Elementary Secondary School is about 490 m away, so watch for students and school zones on weekdays; ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. The Fraser Lake Fire Department is about 365 m away, so be ready to pull over for emergency vehicles. There are no traffic lights or stop signs in the map data nearby, and the only railway level crossing is about 1.1 km out. Our 7.0 km practice route leaves along the Yellowhead Highway and loops through Chowsunket Street, Tunasa Crescent, Simon Fraser Avenue, Tunasa Drive and Carrier Crescent. These crescents are good for practicing slow, controlled turns and watching for pedestrians.
Common questions
Fraser Lake road test FAQ
What are the hours at Fraser Lake?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
Is a practice route available for Fraser Lake?
