Local tips
Peace River Registries is at 10011 102 Ave, about 40 metres from a bridge on 101 Street. Hours vary here, so call 780-624-4804 to confirm before you go; road tests are by appointment. Several roads around the registry carry Highway 744 at 50 km/h, and 20 marked crosswalks lie nearby, so keep your speed down and watch for people crossing. Map data shows roundabouts about 700 metres, 1.1 km and 1.2 km away. Yield to vehicles already in the roundabout and signal before you exit. Railway level crossings are about 380 metres, 750 metres and 1.1 km away; slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. A fire station is about 370 metres from the registry, so be ready to pull over. Our 9.5 km practice route is short: it follows 100 Street, goes through a roundabout onto 104 Street, uses 93 Avenue and a second roundabout onto 98 Street, then loops along 80 Avenue and 77 Avenue before returning on 102 Avenue. Drive it a few times to get comfortable choosing the right roundabout exit.
Common questions
Peace River Registries road test FAQ
What are the hours at Peace River Registries?
Alberta doesn't publish hours for each registry, and they vary. Call Peace River Registries at 780-624-4804 to confirm before you go. Road tests are by appointment.
How do I book a road test?
Book online through Peace River Registries's road test booking page (the "Official booking" button on this page, also listed on alberta.ca), or in person at the registry. You'll need your 9-digit MVID number, printed near the barcode on your licence, and any outstanding Government of Alberta fines must be paid first. Registry agents set their own road test fees, up to the maximum in the province's Registry Agent Product Catalogue, so confirm the fee when you book.
What do I need for the road test?
A vehicle that meets all legal and safety requirements, plus the documents listed on the registry's road test information sheet and in your confirmation letter. The information sheet also covers eligibility, fees, and the registry's cancellation and no-show policies.
How long do I need my learner's licence first, and how is the test marked?
You must have held a Class 7 learner's licence for at least one year and be at least 16 (with a parent's or guardian's written consent if you're under 18). You fail the Class 5 road test with more than 75 points, or automatically if you endanger someone, drive unsafely or break traffic laws. After you pass the road test and a vision test, you get a probationary Class 5-GDL licence, which you hold for at least two years.
Is a practice route available for Peace River Registries?
Yes. This page has a 9.5 km Class 5 practice test route that starts and ends at the centre, with a map and turn-by-turn directions.
