Keep using your mirrors and pull over to the right when an ambulance approaches. Traffic lights are everywhere here, with 54 sets within a kilometre and the nearest about 85 m from the door. Kingsway NW, about 45 m away, has a 60 km/h limit. Map data also shows a group of railway level crossings starting about 515 m away; slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. The closest roundabout is about 965 m away, where you yield to traffic already circling and signal before your exit. Road tests are by appointment, and hours vary, so call 780-989-6370 to confirm. Our 12.5 km practice route is compact: northwest on Kingsway NW, right onto Princess Elizabeth Avenue NW, left on 106 Street NW, then exit 392 onto Wayne Gretzky Drive before the 112 Avenue exit brings you back along 112 Avenue NW. Practice choosing your lane early before each exit.
Common questions
Kingsway road test FAQ
What are the hours at Kingsway?
Alberta doesn't publish hours for each registry, and they vary. Call Alberta Motor Association (AMA) - Edmonton Kingsway at 780-989-6370 to confirm before you go. Road tests are by appointment.
How do I book a road test?
Book online through Alberta Motor Association (AMA) - Edmonton Kingsway's road test booking page (the "Official booking" button on this page, also listed on alberta.ca), or in person at the registry. You'll need your 9-digit MVID number, printed near the barcode on your licence, and any outstanding Government of Alberta fines must be paid first. Registry agents set their own road test fees, up to the maximum in the province's Registry Agent Product Catalogue, so confirm the fee when you book.
What do I need for the road test?
A vehicle that meets all legal and safety requirements, plus the documents listed on the registry's road test information sheet and in your confirmation letter. The information sheet also covers eligibility, fees, and the registry's cancellation and no-show policies.
How long do I need my learner's licence first, and how is the test marked?
You must have held a Class 7 learner's licence for at least one year and be at least 16 (with a parent's or guardian's written consent if you're under 18). You fail the Class 5 road test with more than 75 points, or automatically if you endanger someone, drive unsafely or break traffic laws. After you pass the road test and a vision test, you get a probationary Class 5-GDL licence, which you hold for at least two years.
Is a practice route available for Kingsway?
Yes. This page has a 12.5 km Class 5 practice test route that starts and ends at the centre, with a map and turn-by-turn directions.
